April was already unusually hot, and after several twists and turns, I finally arrived at Mumu Art. Located in the suburbs of Shenzhen, far from the urban area, the studio was free from the hustle and bustle of the city—just pure tranquility.

As soon as I walked into the studio, I was drawn to the loquat trees in the courtyard. Several tall loquat trees were heavy with fruit, and the yard was filled with plants. The owner is a succulent enthusiast, and the various succulents were a feast for the eyes.

{Many of the loquats were already ripe.}

{The cute succulents made me want to take them home with me.}

{I can't remember the name of this plant—I used to see it often in rural areas, but now it's planted around the lotus pond.}

The studio's owner is surnamed Lin, and everyone calls him A Chang— the studio is named after his surname. A Chang studied art and used to live a nine-to-five office worker's life. When asked why he set up his studio in such a remote location, he said that being close to the urban area is too noisy. He came here precisely to escape the hustle and bustle of the city; urban life is too fast-paced, and people miss out on many beautiful things in life.

The studio mainly creates original handmade jewelry, wooden crafts, and cultural curios—all items are crafted by hand, as A Chang insists on preserving the handcrafted nature. He says handmade items have life and warmth; they can convey the maker's emotions. It was my first time seeing such jewelry—A Chang explained that they are made from real butterfly wings. (It was amazing—I never thought butterfly wings could be made into jewelry!)

A special mention goes to the blue jewelry. I initially thought it was made of some kind of gemstone, but it turns out it's crafted from the wings of a South American butterfly called the blue morpho. This butterfly looks extremely beautiful when illuminated by light. When asked about his sales channels and volume, A Chang said he mainly sells online. He added that the quantity sold isn't the main thing—what matters most is that he enjoys this kind of life. He doesn't have to rush to work or back home every day; his time is completely his own, and all he wants is this sense of freedom.

All the works above are from Mumu Art Studio.
