Purple Grape Velvet Flower Brooch & Hair Clip

Ronghua · Handmade Velvet Flower
$39.00
Handmade in Nanjing · Delivery timing shown at checkout

Inspired by the Tang line “grapes and wine in cups of luminous jade,” our Purple Grape piece is a small cluster of twilight — hand-shaped velvet grapes in deepening violet, one curling leaf, and a tiny pearl of morning dew.

Each grape is made by a single artisan in Nanjing with the heritage ronghua (velvet flower) technique: fine fibers teased into soft loops, shaped petal by petal, and fixed to a brass base. Lightweight, dimensional, quietly luxurious.

Wear it as a brooch on a lapel, scarf, or coat — or clip it into your hair. Two ways, one little garden.

The Craft

From Nanjing workshops to your wardrobe

Lunar Bloom draws on the centuries-old craft of velvet flower making (ronghua) — the art of shaping velvet into petals that last. Each piece begins as copper wire and velvet cloth, folded and pinched petal by petal until a flower comes to life.

Small velvet flowers for ordinary days — a bloom on a jacket, a comb in a ponytail, something quietly beautiful for the office, a coffee date, a weekend at the gallery. Each piece is shaped petal by petal over a copper-wire frame in our Nanjing studio: light enough to forget you are wearing it, pretty enough to reme...

The Meaning

Grapes and wine in cups of luminous jade

A Tang dynasty line - grapes and wine in cups of luminous jade - is where this little cluster begins. In Chinese poetry the grape stands for abundance that arrives quietly, and for moments worth keeping. Ours is a small cluster of twilight, held close to a collar or swept into the hair.

The Craft

How the flower comes to life

01

Skeleton

Every bloom begins as a slim copper wire frame, bent by hand into the shape the petals will follow.

02

Velvet strips

Fine fibres are teased and twisted into soft velvet strips - the raw material of every petal.

03

Petal by petal

Each petal is cut, pinched and shaped individually. No moulds, and no two petals exactly alike.

04

Assembly

Petals are set onto the frame in sequence, then finished with a discreet metal pin or clip back.

Packaging

Packaged with care

Your flower arrives in a Lunar Bloom gift box, cushioned and ready to give - no extra wrapping needed.

Good to know

Before you order

Will mine look exactly like the photos?
Almost - but not quite, and that is the point. Every petal is shaped by hand, so slight variations in curve and colour are the signature of the maker, not a flaw.
How do I care for it?
Keep it away from water and perfume, and store it in the box provided. If a petal bends, reshape it gently with your fingers.
Is it heavy to wear?
No - it is feather-light, made to sit on a lapel or in your hair all day without pulling.
When will it arrive?
Dispatch timing, destinations, shipping cost and return terms are shown at checkout.
